If there’s one thing we see every week in Kindermusik, it’s this: kids are naturally creative. They explore, experiment, try things sideways and upside-down, and often surprise us with ideas we never would’ve thought of ourselves!
But here’s the really exciting part:
- Creativity isn’t just a personality trait. It’s a skill.
- Flexibility isn’t something kids either “have or don’t.” It can be nurtured.
- And Kindermusik is intentionally designed to grow these abilities, step by step.
Let’s take you behind the scenes of how we support “thinking outside the box” in class every single week.
Creativity Needs a Framework: Scaffolding in Action
You’ll hear us talk a lot about "scaffolding". It’s simply a fancy word for the way we help children stretch just a little beyond what they can currently do; without overwhelming them.
In Kindermusik, this shows up as four simple steps:
1. We NOTICE
We pay close attention to what your child is doing in the moment.

“I see you’re tapping your sticks gently.”

“You’re moving your scarf up high!”
This tells a child: I see you. Your ideas matter.
2. We LABEL
We give their actions meaning and vocabulary.

“You’re tapping a steady beat.”

“You found a swoopy, floating movement.”
This helps children connect what they’re doing to a bigger idea.
3. We IMITATE
This is one of the most powerful parts.
When we imitate a child’s creative idea, it says:
“Your idea is worth sharing with the group.”
Kids light up when they see their movement or rhythm copied and suddenly, they are the leader, and their creativity becomes a contribution.
4. We BUILD
Once a child feels seen and supported, we gently extend the activity.

“You tapped slowly. Can we try tapping fast?”

“You floated your scarf. What if we make it zoom like the wind?”
And that is how flexibility is formed: through tiny invitations to try something new.
